Isolation
When people do not seek treatment, either because of cultural backgrounds or distrust, they feel isolated in their struggles. This also continues when they do seek treatment and feel misunderstood or dismissed. Many people feel alone, without the proper resources to cope with their mental illnesses, and continue to struggle to reach out. By providing resources for those who need them, people can feel less isolated. Often, when someone doesn't get help, they can feel like they're the only person going through their issues. In reality, struggling with mental health is common within all groups.
Worsening mental health
Without treatment, it's common for mental illnesses to continue to worsen. Treatment can provide the proper medications and coping strategies for recovery. The isolation also doesn't help in recovery. Talking about troubles is known as a great way to work through them, but when someone feels like they can't talk to anyone, they have no outlet. The lack of resources can add onto issues someone is already experiencing, further pushing them into the cycle of isolation. It's necessary that a patient knows that help is available and that it's safe so they can truly move into recovery. Otherwise, they'll continue to struggle alone and without help.
