Discrimination in Mental health communities |
What is this issue?
We are looking into disparities among categories such as gender, race, and status in mental health communities. Stereotypes and bias among professionals affects the treatment for these groups. Psychology has mainly been studied by white men and using white men as well, but disorders may look different among different groups because of cultural differences and things such as masking. We want to stress the importance of looking deeper into these issues to see why they are happening and how to fix it. It's also necessary to make mental health treatment more accessible to these groups. It should be an easy and comfortable option for them.
Why is it important?
We believe that everyone should be able to seek help easily and get proper treatment, no matter their race, gender, or location. It should not be something that is difficult or uncomfortable. Everyone should feel safe when they seek care. The struggle of dealing with mental illness and not having the resources to cope is not something that people should be forced to handle, especially when it's much easier for other groups, such as white men, to get treatment.
